Spied: Rolls-Royce’s ultra-luxurious SUV running electric

A pre-production example of a next-generation Rolls-Royce Cullinan has been spotted in Northern Europe the other day, Carscoops reports posting some spy shots as proof. The luxury SUV doesn’t look much different at a glance, but seemingly uses an all-electric powertrain.

The exterior stays largely unchanged with redesigned headlights, a slightly different front end, a revised shoulder line and a sportier-looking rear end with a gently curved tailgate pretty much summing up the discernible details. Thick camo doesn’t let us draw any far-reaching conclusions, but it would appear that the second-gen Cullinan uses the same styling language as the company’s first EV, the Spectre coupe.

Carscoops believes that it rides on the Spectre underpinnings, too, which implies two electric motors and 659 PS (650 hp / 485 kW) total. That’s a sizeable improvement over the original, which could only extract 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) out of its 6.75-liter naturally aspirated V12 in the range-topping Black Badge Edition.

Battery specs remain a mystery as well. The Spectre can do up to 520 km (323 miles) per charge, which is decent, but we expect the bulkier Cullinan to get a bigger pack.

Rolls-Royce had intended to reveal its second production EV sometime in 2025, but apparently never did. Rumors are now circulating that the company may want to take a 2-3-year break to polish the technology; if true, then the next generation won’t be coming until 2028.
