Citroen Basalt comes to South America

After debuting in India, the coupe-like Citroen Basalt SUV is now coming to South America. The local version will be made in Brazil.

The main difference is in the engine choices. The new Basalt will ship with Firefly-series 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engines designed by Fiat. The naturally aspirated version will be linked to a five-speed manual transmission and make 75 PS (74 hp / 55 kW), while the turbocharged version will produce 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) and use a CVT with seven imitated speeds.

The Brazil version of the Basalt will also cut down on some trim options. For one thing, it offers only four airbags instead of six. Prices will start from the equivalent of U.S. $16,400 and reach $19,600 with all options ticked.
