Camo can’t hide this Shangjie’s infatuation with Porsche

Shangjie, a Chinese automaker co-founded between Huawei and SAIC Group, has posted the first live photos of its upcoming sedan named the Z7. The local media believe it will debut at the Auto China expo in April.

No amount of wrapping can conceal the fact that the car takes after Porsche models, especially the all-electric Taycan. While not a blatant replica, it nonetheless has similar body outlines, curves and lighting units. As any other Huawei vehicle, it has a LiDAR hump on the roof for self-autonomous driving capabilities.

The interior remains to be revealed, but unofficial reports say it’s going to be similar to that of Shangjie’s other newcomer, the H5 SUV (see video). This means we can look forward to a large multimedia display, a transmission stalk on the steering column and two wireless charging pads on the tunnel.

It would make sense for the Z7 to borrow some of its powertrains from the H5, which is set to go on sale in hybrid and all-electric flavors. The hybrid is of a range-extender type, using an engine to power up a 204-PS (201-hp / 150-kW) motor on the rear axle. Aside from that, it also has a sizable 32.6-kWh battery.

The EV gets the same motor, but a much larger battery rated at 64.6 kWh. A flagship spec is also coming to the market with 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) at the rear axle and 80 kilowatt-hours. All-wheel drive isn’t on the list so far, but we suppose the new Shangjie Z7 might get one.
