Meet the Prius Nightshade, Toyota’s new black

Toyota launched the first Nightshade Edition car dup in the United States in the late 2018, turning the metaphorical lights off on the Highlander SUV and the Camry sedan. The lineup now includes nearly a dozen such models, the Prius being the first hybrid in the family.

As far as the looks are concerned, the car does not necessarily come in a full-body black finish. You can actually order it in silver or even white, just as long as you like the way those versions look with the mandatory black wheels and trim pieces. Inside, the seats are wrapped in black imitation leather, and there are gloss black details all around.

Customers can choose between front and all-wheel drive. In both cases, the front axle is driven by a hybrid system based on a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine, a few electric motors and a CVT. The output sums up to 122 PS (120 HP / 90 kW). the AWD-e version adds a rear-axle electric motor with 7.2 PS (7.1 HP / 5.3 kW) and 55 Nm (40 lb-ft) of torque.

Sales start this fall.
