Toyota reveals the racing-only Yaris Cup Car

Toyota Racing Development has prepared a very special sports car for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Yaris Cup – let us have a closer look at it, shall we?

Contrary to what one might expect, the conversion began with a mundane five-door Yaris hatchback as the donor vehicle, rather than the power-packed GR Yaris. In its stock form, the car packs a modest 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 120 hp (90 kW) at the output end, front wheel drive, and a choice between six-speed manual and CVT for transmission.

Further upgrades include sported-up springs, variable shocks, a stainless-steel tube frame, a dash cam, a sports steering wheel and bucket seats with six-point safety harnesses.

The 2021 Yaris Cup will open in Japan next summer and will permanently replace the Vitz Cup event from before. Earlier Yaris models used to be sold in Japan under the name “Vitz”, a tradition that ended with the latest generation.
