Toyota and its Gazoo Racing division have unveiled their next flagship supercar, the GR GT. It comes equipped with a hybrid powertrain, has a track-only version called the GR GT3, and is expected to ship in 2027 or later.
The company claims it has designed a completely new 4.0-liter, dry-sump V8 for the model. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with a built-in electric motor, it drives the rear axle with no less than 650 PS (641 hp / 478 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque. Toyota promises to keep improving the specs, so these numbers are not final. The top speed target is currently at 322 km/h (200 mph).
Made out of aluminum with carbon-fiber body panels, the newcomer tips the scales at just 1,750 kilograms (3,858 pounds). It features a 45:55 per-axle weight balance thanks to putting the engine at the front and the transmission at the back. It rides on dual-wishbone suspension, has carbon-ceramic brakes, an active aero kit and 20-inch wheels.
Little is known about the track-focused GR GT3 at this moment. It comes equipped with a much more extreme-looking aero kit including a massive rear wing, but Toyota says it has the same platform and wheelbase as the street-legal version. We suppose the engine could be free from electrification for further weight savings, but that’s just a theory.
Both vehicles are technically considered concepts right now. Actual driving tests are already underway, but the company doesn’t expect either model to be ready for shipment until at least 2027.
