The model year 2022 is shaping up to be a particularly important one for Volkswagen, which has a limited-run Passat to launch there along with a Golf GTI, Golf R and Arteon. As it turns out now, the latter will be getting a power boost.
Specifically, the U.S.-spec 2022 VW Arteon gets a new 2.0 TSI option rated at 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. It will not be breaking any records with the Euro-spec Arteon R being capable of 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW), but the latter isn’t available in North America. As for the current 2021MY Arteon, it maxes out at just 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW).
Buyers will be able to choose from three available trim levels. The SE R is an entry/FWD specification starting from U.S. $39,995. The SEL R adds AWD and costs $44,615 before options, and the SEL Premium R-Line remains without any details at the moment.
This means a $3000 price bump over the old generation across the board, which Volkswagen justifies through enhanced equipment. For instance, the optional R-Line package is now standard and included in all specs, as is wireless phone charging.
