Video: This is how some of the world’s beefiest Beetles are made

3L Engineering&Design, a tuning company based in Cape Town, SAR, has shared a video detailing the ins and out of its latest project, the V8 Stealth Beetle. You read that right: they take classic VW Beetles and stuff V8s in them.

Naturally the chassis and the interior get their own share of upgrades. Customers can choose from several available V8 options ranging from Chevy Corvette crate engines to high-end Audi mills.

The V8 is mounted in the back, where it replaces the rear bench, and gets hooked up to a Getrag six-speed manual transmission. In essence, this means you get a mid-engine Beetle sports car.

The suspension and the brakes benefit from transplanted BMW M5 components. Ultra-wide wheels slot in flared fenders. The two remaining seats inside are wrapped in leather, and a roll cage is added for safety.

Prices start from U.S. $92,000.
