VW Golf GTE gains aftermarket rims and a stance

Volkswagen may be mainly focused on promoting its all-electric ID.3 compact right now, but the elderly Golf series still gets plenty of love, too. A slight upgrade has recently come out for the electrified Golf GTE in the United States.

Urban Motors was responsible for the job, landing the five-door hot hatch with an original blue vinyl wrap, Barracuda Project 3.0 wheels and KW Suspensions coilovers. The particularly lightweight forged rims measure 20 inches across and 8.5 inches wide, and sport black spokes with vivid blue accents matching those on the body.

Interestingly enough, the team has managed to drop the plug-in hybrid by 45 mm (1.8”) on both axles, which is quite an achievement for this vehicle type. Furthermore, Urban Motors claims this actually improved the steering.

Things stay stock under the hood, with the part-electric system still churning out 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) total through a six-speed DCT. The golf needs 6.7 seconds to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) and reaches its limit at 225 km/h (140 mph).
