Xiaomi YU7 swept off virtual lots with ~300k orders in an hour

Xiaomi’s second production car, the all-electric crossover SUV called the YU7, is already obtainable in China for 253,500–329,900 Yuan depending on the configuration.

The company has reported receiving more than 200,000 orders within three minutes from launch. It then registered 289,000 in the first hour. Making the whole thing more impressive is the fact that buyers are required to make an advance payment of up to 20,000 Yuan, and those who choose to pay more move up the delivery queue.

Xiaomi says the first batch of cars is almost ready for shipping, so those who made a big enough deposit should take delivery in several days. These lucky customers can also specify a number of trim options that they will get for free; they will be listed as paid after the first couple of batches.

In its cheapest version, the Xiaomi YU7 comes equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor rated at 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW) and 528 Nm (389 lb-ft) of torque. It sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.88 seconds and covers up to 830 km (515 miles) on its generous 96.3-kWh battery pack.

A middle-ground spec is available with an additional motor on the front axle, giving it 496 PS (489 hp / 365 kW). It uses the same battery, so the range goes down to 770 km (478 miles).

Finally, the flagship YU7 sends 690 PS (681 hp / 507 kW) and 866 Nm (639 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. It hits 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds and takes advantage of a larger 101.7-kWh battery promising up to 760 km (472 miles) of range. Thanks to 528kW charging current support, topping up the battery from 10% to 80% only takes 12 minutes.

Depending on the trim level chosen, you gain access to such options as air-ride suspension, up to 25 sound speakers, wheels up to 21 inches in diameter, and a fridge. All driver assist features are powered by a high-end chipset with 700 TOPS of raw computational power. Even the base trim offers a 16.1-inch multimedia display with a voice assistant.

There is no traditional instrument cluster, but the whole lower part of the windshield doubles as a heads-up display. Xiaomi lists nine exterior finishes and four interior upholstery options.
