A unique restomod of a 56-year-old Chevrolet Chevelle SS debuted in California this weekend. Rebuilt on a new chassis with a new interior and powertrain, it’s basically a modern car packing 750 American horsepower in a recognizable wrap.
SpeedTech Performance provided its track-focused Extreme chassis for the build to ensure maximum rigidity. The bodywork was also recreated from scratch, with only a few panels carrying over from the original. An Ironworks front splitter, Ringbrothers side mirrors and Kindigit door handles rounded off the clean and minimalist look.
In turn, California Upholstery handled the interior. Like most projects of this kind, the Chevelle SS ended up with Dakota Digital gauges and a Vintage Air HVAC. The owner opted for a Sparco steering wheel and Hyundai Veloster front seats. The seats lost their headrests in order to attain that period-correct look.
A peek under the hood reveals a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 mated to a modern six-speed manual transmission. According to the builder, the car outputs around 760 PS (750 hp / 559 kW) to the rear wheels. This implies that the crank gets hit with 900 PS (888 hp / 662 kW) or so.
