The Apex AP-0 is an SAE Level III self-driving racecar

Hong Kong-based supercar maker Apex Motors has attended a tradeshow in London with its newest AP-0 Concept, a £150,000+ street-legal racecar co-designed with famous vehicle designer Guy Colborne.

The concept coupe boasts a carbon monocoque construction with height-adjustable suspension and Formula One-like push rods. The entire car weighs in at a mere 1,200 kilos (2,645 pounds) and has only 95 millimeters (3.71 inches) of road clearance.

The powertrain includes a single high-end electric motor mounted on the rear axle, as well as a 90-kWh traction battery rated for 515 km (320 miles) of range. With 658 hp (491 kW) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal, it can reportedly hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in mere 2.3 seconds, just like the Hennessey Venom F5. This frankly sounds amazing, given that the latter is a no-holds-barred hypercar that packs 1,842 hp (1,374 kW).

Inside, the Apex AP-0 Concept boasts carbon bucket seats and a steering wheel made out of a combination of carbon fiber and CNC-machined aluminum.

One final big feature of the prototype comes in the shape of an SAE Level III autopilot system equipped with a LIDAR scanner that produces a full 3D map of the area ahead. Other features include adaptive cruise control, lane control, a holographic display, and a virtual racing coach.
