2026 Avatr 12 EV gains power, ditches single-motor spec

Avatr, a relatively new vehicle manufacturer co-founded between Huawei, CATL and Changan in China, has refreshed its model number 12. The first photos and specs have been uploaded to the country’s certification database, suggesting that the premium fastback will continue its move upmarket.

The current Avatr 12 RWD uses a single motor to drive its rear wheels with 322 PS (318 hp / 237 kW). This version will apparently no longer be available. Instead, the company plans to start the lineup with a dual-motor version outputting 682 PS (673 hp / 502 kW) using one motor per rear wheel. That’s a sizeable bump from the former 547 PS (540 hp / 402 kW).

A new flagship will land on top of the lineup with a third motor installed on the front axle for a total of 968 PS (955 hp / 712 kW). It will be able to hit 230 km/h (143 mph) in a straight line, while the dual-motor variant will be good for 220 km/h (137 mph).

On the exterior side of things, the 2026 Avatr 12 can be recognized thanks to an added LiDAR and traditional-looking door handles. China plans to ban concealed/flush door handles due to how hard they can be to operate in road accidents, so this change is far from unexpected. As for the interior, it remains to be revealed.

Aside from the EV, the Avatr 12 facelift lineup will include a serial-hybrid variant with 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) heading for the rear wheels.
