Seedy BMW 2002 goes from junkyard to podium state thanks to detailing

Car detailing is an interesting field to specialize in, although it requires tons of patience, scrupulousness and attention to, well, detail. Let us see how detailing alone can make a car-shaped lump of scrap metal look like new.

This BMW 2002 was found at a junkyard, so don’t be surprised to see all the rust and peeling, degraded paint. The restoration team begins by giving the bodywork a thorough pressure wash followed with a rubdown with a special wet clay. You may think a cloth would have done the job just as well, but in reality, it is easy to pick up small debris with the cloth and accidentally leave scratches on the panels while polishing.

They then removed the brake lights, the rear window and a few trim pieces to reach the most remote and difficult corners, where they used a wire brush to peel off the rust and sprayed the areas with an anti-corrosive aerosol.

The paint correction began with the team measuring the thickness and the number of layers of the original finish. They then applied a coat of their own high-gloss paint, making the car shine like a mirror. The end result was coated in protective ceramics.

As you may notice, some defects are still present on the body, but the company never intended to conduct a complete restoration of this specific BMW 2002. The job done is still outstanding, and should reward the shop with a steady flow of customers.
