BMW M car collection heads to auction in Germany

RM Sotheby’s will attempt to sell a curated selection of 22 BMW M vehicles in Munich, Germany on next Saturday, October 18. It is called Best of M and features both rare old-timers and current-era models. The whole assembly is evaluated north of $4 million, but bidding for individual cars will be possible, too.

A 1980 BMW M1 estimated between 500,000 and 600,000 EUR is the single most expensive piece in the collection. It comes with a completely transparent background and is considered as-new following a lengthy restoration job that took place from 2016 through 2018.

The oldest entry on the list is a BMW 2002 Turbo, which dates back to 1975. It is expected to fetch between 100,000 and 140,000 EUR. Other noteworthy rarities include a Z8-based Alpina Roadster (up to 380,000 EUR), a 1990 M3 Sport Evo (up to 250,000 EUR) and a Z3 M “Clown Shoe” outfitted with the optional 325-PS engine (up to 100,000 EUR).

There’s also an iconic M3 CSL in the mix wearing a classic silver paintjob (up to 160,000 EUR) and an M3 CRT sedan from a production batch of just 67 units. It is a track-focused car extensively trimmed with carbon fiber, weighing whopping 70 kilos (154 pounds) below the mass-market version. With only 168 km (104 miles) under its belt, it is expected to bring the seller a cool 220,000 euros. Even with an estimate as high as that, it ranks fifth in the list sorted by value.
