Chery launches the Kaiyi Kunlun in China

Chery has opened its pre-order books for a new crossover SUV named the Kunlun in China. The model will be sold under the budding sub-brand Kaiyi, AutoHome points out adding that there will be 11 trim versions and a few engines to choose from. The model sports a rather aggressive front end, a dynamic overall design and 20-inch wheels. It is sized slightly under the Hyundai Santa Fe, but has a longer wheelbase.

The equipment inside includes an infotainment system with two touchscreens and a large number of electronic assists joining efforts in a Level 2 self-driving system. The manufacturer claims it is planning on upgrading that level via software later on.

In its most standard guise, the car utilizes a 1.6-liter petrol engine good for 197 PS (194 hp / 144 kW). The middle spec brings 254 PS (250 hp / 186 kW) to the crank. If you want a hybrid, you can choose between one electric motor with 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and two motors with a combined 367 PS (362 hp / 270 kW). The longest all-electric range available is estimated at a cool 180 km (112 miles).
