Chery has presented two crossovers from its eco-friendly Fulwin lineup: the X3 and the X3 Plus. While they may sound like different trims, they also come in different sizes and have different powertrains. Both can wade water up to 625 mm (24.4 in) high.
Prices in China start from ¥89,900 ($12,566). Chery doesn’t say so outright, but both cars appear to be based on the iCar 03. They sport a boxy exterior with L-shaped headlights and have pretty much the same interior layout. The “normal” X3 is sized 4,327 x 1,910 x 1,715 mm large with 2,715 mm between the axles. The X3 Plus measures 4,380 x 1,916 x 1,741 mm with the same wheelbase, so it might have more interior space, but this remains to be clarified.
The Fulwin X3 is solely available with one rear-axle motor rated at 252 PS (249 hp / 185 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque – no other options. Buyers can still choose from two battery packs. One stores 50.79 kWh of energy and runs dry after 401 km (249 miles), while the other one stores 68.36 kWh and gets 520 km (323 miles) per charge.
The most affordable X3 Plus spec has the same motor and the smaller out of the two batteries, but it isn’t restricted to them. Rather, you can opt for an additional front motor with 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW) and 165 Nm (122 lb-ft) of torque. Chery insists that this version gets the same 520 km from the bigger battery pack, but we suspect this involves certain driving restrictions.
Inside, both SUVs feature two displays sized 9.2 and 15.6 inches across and an infotainment system running on a Snapdragon 8155 chipset. The trunk size ranges from 450 to 1,238 liters (the latter with the rear bench folded down).
Curiously enough, a third vehicle from the same family is slated to debut in just a few days. Dubbed the Fulwin X3L, it features a longer body and a hybrid powertrain capable of 1,000+ kilometers (621+ miles) of range.
