Chery Fengyun T9 PHEV goes into production

Chery has started assembling its Fengyun T9 SUV, a plug-in hybrid version of the Tiggo 9 shipping in FWD and AWD variants. The production takes place at a new factory in Qingdao, and the shipments are scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.

The six-seater is sized 4,820 x 1,930 x 1,710 millimeters with 2,820 mm of wheelbase. It is expected to start from 150,000–200,000 Yuan, but that’s an unofficial estimate.

Power is provided by a C-DM-series hybrid system based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a single electric motor. The engine outputs 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. The motor comes in two modifications: one makes 204 PS (150 hp / 150 kW) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) and the other one 224 PS (221 hp / 165 kW) and 390 Nm (288 lb-ft).

The all-electric range is WLTC-rated at 100 km (62 miles) for the base spec and 160 km (99 miles) for the top spec. Filling up the tank gives you over 1,400 km (870 miles) of range. The car sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.26 seconds and takes 20 minutes to charge up from 30 to 80 percent full. Fuel economy averages at 4.2 liters per 100 kilometers, or 56 MPG.

Unlike the Tiggo 9 with its merged 12.3-inch display duo, the Fengyun T9 has a different driver’s interface represented by standalone digital dash and infotainment screens. A HUD, a 14-channel premium audio system and wireless chargers are mentioned among standard features.
