56-year-old Chevy Camaro with a low-poly body kit heads to auction

An uncredited tuner spent 3,000 workhours creating an all-new look for this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and equipping it with a 1,014-PS (1,000-hp / 747-kW) engine. Such restomods normally fetch good money – well into six digits if done right – but this one looks like it fell victim to haphazard execution.

The owner must have penned what they believed to be a sporty bodywork for the car, complete with many jutting edges and sharp angles. It sounds aggressive and it looks that way, too – but also inconsistent and amateurish, if you ask us. The proportions feel off no matter the viewing angle, and the whole thing resembles a cheap plastic toy with how directionless the design is.

Just as bafflingly cheap is the cabin. There’s an aftermarket steering wheel, a dashboard that looks glued together from multiple different models, and worn-looking leather and suede seats. The head unit is as basic as they get, but that’s arguably a minor gripe. Now, a tiny, low-contrast digital dash display tucked under a sun visor – that’s the real issue.

Power for the uncanny Camaro comes from a Borowski LSX V8 engine driven by a three-liter supercharger. A Magnum six-speed manual transmission carries the torque to the rear end. The listing mentions a new cold air intake, radiator and cylinder heads, Wilwood brakes and Aidan coilovers. As nice as these upgrades sound, they are offset by disproportionately huge wheels measuring 22x13 inches large at the front end and a gargantuan 24x15 inches at the back. Not build for handling, this one.

Barrett-Jackson will try to sell the restomod at its Scottsdale auction the day after tomorrow. There are currently no price estimates.
