Performance-laden Corvette ZR1 gets 100 extra horses for cheap

California-based Burger Motorsports has designed a special ECU add-on for the C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The $1,900 upgrade gets you over one thousand horsepower at the rear wheels.

In case you forgot, the stock ZR1 is a supremely capable sports car as is, packing a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft. The crank gets hit with 1,079 PS (1,064 hp / 794 kW). Factoring in the inevitable transmission losses, the wheels actually get closer to 910 PS (900 hp / 670 kW), which is arguably still plenty.

Those few who feel they still need more may opt for the tuner’s JB4PRO external engine control unit. Once plugged in and tuned, it makes the car slam the dyno stand with 1,122 PS (1,107 hp / 825 kW) and 1,330 Nm (981 lb-ft) of torque. The only requirement is that you upgrade from ON93 to ON100 gas.

The company points out that the same ECU can be adapted to work with the range-topping Corvette ZR1X. That one is a full-blown supercar available from $209,700 in the United States. A few weeks ago, a stock ZR1X managed to sprint 0-96.6 km/h (0-60 mph) in record-breaking 1.68 seconds, leaving behind this world’s strongest and priciest hypercars. It remains to be seen what Burger Motorsports can accomplish with that one.
