Cupra Formentor VZ5 set to receive Audi RS 3 engine

Cupra, which broke off from Seat as a standalone brand two years ago, will be unveiling a top Formentor spec on February 22, 2021. The SUV will reuse the Audi RS 3 engine.

Aside from the name suffix “VZ5”, the latest-and-greatest Formentor will pack 3.5 liters of turbocharged displacement, around 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW), and 480 Nm (356 lb-ft) of maximum torque.

The current top spec, VZ, churns out 310 PS (306 hp / 228 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. It relies on a 2.0-liter turbo engine mated to a DSG-7 and an AWD system. You can watch the video for a closer look at it. Getting from zero to hero takes under five seconds, and the top speed lies at 250 km/h (155 mph).

The lineup also includes a plug-in hybrid good for 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) and an entry-level spec armed with a TSI mill worth 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW).
