Denza N8L touches down in China

The Denza N8L six-seat SUV announced this spring is now available for ordering in China. It copies the range-topping N9 in terms of powertrains and most other features and comes in two trim variants priced at 319,800 and 349,800 CNY.

The crossover is only slightly downsized from the N9, being only 58 mm (2.27 in) shorter and 31 mm (1.2 in) less wide. It is still a massive SUV at 5,200 x 1,999 x 1,820 mm (203.1 x 78.1 x 71.1 inches). The exterior resembles that of the N9 with the exception of the headlights, the bumpers and the smaller wheels (20 and 21 inches instead of 22). The trunk fits 313 liters (11 cubic feet) with the seats up and 1,077 l (38 cu. ft.) with them folded.

Inside, the new Denza N8L has three rows of two seats in each and three displays on the dash. A heads-up display and a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted screen for the back row are listed as extras. Further features include an 11-liter fridge integrated in the center console, drop-down tables and a 20-speaker audio system. Adaptive suspension and an ADAS package from BYD come standard, including the costly LiDAR equipment and numerous other sensors.

Like the N9, the N8L uses a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with 207 PS (204 hp / 152 kW) exclusively to top up the 46.9-kWh battery on board. All propulsion is handled by a trio of electric motors, two of them detuned from 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW) to 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW).

As a result, while the N9 hits the wheels with a combined 925 PS (912 hp / 680 kW), the N8L manages 762 PS (752 hp / 560 kW). Likely due to the weight difference, both sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.9 seconds. The CLTC driving range amounts to 230 km (143 miles) on electricity alone and 1,300 km (807 miles) with a full tank.
