The Texas Department of Public Security has commissioned a Dodge Challenger patrol car tuned to deliver 1,080 mechanical horsepower to the wheels. According to Carscoops, the vehicle was seized from a repeat offender who endangered many lives as he tried to escape pursuit.
Reportedly, the perpetrator participated in a street race in April 2022 and attempted to dash when the police arrived. He drove dangerously and irresponsibly, reaching 258 km/h (160 miles per hour) at some point.
The car he parted with was a Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 normally rated at 717 PS (707 hp / 527 kW). The details of the tuning were not revealed, but we would expect a pair of upgrade turbochargers at the very least.
The police repainted the Challenger with service colors and enlisted it as a patrol and interception vehicle. There is a certain irony in an illegal racecar transforming into a police ride, and we have no doubt that it will be highly efficient with all that thrust.
