Ford sends its Expedition Limited FX4 SUV into badlands

While it is no secret that most drivers of large SUVs never leave smooth asphalt save for when they need to lawn-park, a study found that 20% of Ford Expedition owners actually like an occasional fishing or hunting trip. The Limited FX4 package has been designed specifically for them.

The entry-level Expedition XLT already had access to the various FX4 options, but today, the offer expands to include the higher trims as well. Opting for the off-road-friendly upgrade adds seven protective plates at the bottom, grey 18-inch wheels wrapped in 32-inch off-road tires, better shock absorbers, and much more.

The Limited edition comes powered by a 3.5-liter turbo V6 rated at 380 hp (283 kW) and 637 Nm (470 pound-feet) of torque, linked to a ten-speed auto gearbox. The main gear ratio has changed from 3.31:1 to 3.73:1.

The interior flaunts a natural wood and leather finish, somewhat justifying the 2,035 USD price of the kit (71,865 USD for a ready-to-roll Expedition Limited FX4).

Starting in 2020, all Ford Expedition trims will start shipping with the preinstalled Ford Co-Pilot360 safety/driver assist system.
