Ford Maverick set to debut in two weeks, claims Ford Authority

According to the source, the compact-sized pickup truck that will bring back the model name ‘Maverick’ will be revealed on official terms in mid-June.

The car, which is rumored to start below $20,000 USD, will allegedly go into production in Mexico in late July or early August. It could be based on the C2 platform of the Bronco Sport and the latest Kuga/Escape.

Features will include on-demand AWD, reinforced chassis, and a cargo capacity of 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs). As for the powertrain, it is said to be centered on a turbocharged three- or four-cylinder engine with so far undisclosed specifications.

Once the mini-truck hits the showroom floors throughout the USA, it will have to fight for customers’ attention against the similarly sized and featured Hyundai Santa Cruz. Having said that, Hyundai refuses to call the Santa Cruz a ‘truck’ in the strict sense of the word.
