Velocity rolls out a clean-looking Mustang Fastback restomod, will make more

The classic fastback-shaped Ford Mustang produced back in 1967 and ’68 continues to be popular on the used car market as a base for all kinds of restoration projects. But while most of them drastically alter the appearance of the car, the latest restomod by Velocity manages to keep it beautifully intact.

The body of the muscle car gets transplanted onto a new, more reliable and up-to-date chassis by Roadster Shop. Thanks to this costly transformation, the driver gets to benefit from rack-and-pinion steering, front sway bars and per-wheel front suspension – everything is tailored towards making the old ‘Stang easier to handle at higher speeds.

A peek under the hood tells you all you needed to know about the necessity of such extensive modifications. The old engine is gone, and a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated Coyote V8 occupies its place, producing 467 PS (460 hp / 343 kW) and 569 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission can be either six-speed manual or ten-speed automatic, Velocity says. The brakes and the exhaust system are also completely new and on par with the rest.

Inside, there are bucket seats at the front row, a comfortable bench seat in the back, artificial suede on the ceiling and Dynamat noise canceling mats all around. Unlike the original, the restomod offers plenty of creature comforts like climate control and a Retro Sound multimedia system plugged into a Focal speaker set.

The car is a one-off at the moment, but Velocity plans to start a small batch production in the fall, so those interested are invited to make reservations.
