The S650-gen Mustang GT has finally started shipping in the United States, so it is not surprising that Middleton Motorsports wanted to see how it would perform on the dyno. The five-liter non-turbo V8 is rated at 480 hp and 563 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque, but is it that good?
In order to better assess the actual capabilities of the 2024 Mustang GT, the team first took it on a test drive. By the time it reached the dyno, the car had a touch less than 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) on it. It was the 10-speed automatic version.
In the three dyno runs that followed, the Coyote V8 never exceeded 408.75 mechanical horsepower (414 PS; 304 kW). The peak output was registered at 7,250 RPM. The maximum torque was estimated at 487 Nm (360 lb-ft) at 5,020 RPM.
Note that manufacturers typically rate their cars by measuring power and torque at the crank, before transmission losses become a consideration. Middleton Motorsports conducted all measurements at the wheels, so the lower results were expected.
