Geely patents a Galaxy Starship 7 EV

The existing Geely Galaxy Starship 7 crossover is being offered in China exclusively as a hybrid, but things may change soon, claims CarNewsChina quoting a patent application.

Apparently, the automaker has just registered an upcoming fully electric version of the SUV in the country’s trademark database. It is 4,750 mm long, 1,905 mm wide and 1,680 mm tall with 2,755 mm of wheelbase – basically the same as the hybrid, just 10 mm (0.4”) longer.

This is supported by the first images of the EV, which looks almost identical to its gas-guzzling counterpart. From what can be seen, only the front bumper is new. The 18-inch and 19-inch wheel options also look standard.

Unofficial sources claim that the Galaxy Starship 7 EV will be powered by the same 218-PS (215-hp / 160-kW) motor as its hybrid cousin, just without a 1.5-liter engine to accompany it. It will allegedly accelerate to a top speed of 175 km/h (108 mph) and utilize a lithium-iron-phosphate battery of unspecified capacity. The spec sheet mentions four specs of the car with curb weight ranging from 1,712 to 1,798 kilograms, so it’s possible that there are multiple battery options.

Once full, the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 hybrid can cover 1,420 km (882 miles) until it needs a refill-and-recharge. The EV won’t offer the same kind of autonomy, of course, but the specific numbers remain to be revealed.
