From Punk to Ballet: Chinese VW Beetle lookalike debuts in final production form

In April, Great Wall Motors unveiled the Ora Punk Cat, an unabashed clone of the iconic Volkswagen Beetle with localized internals. The company has now come to the Chengdu Auto Show with an electric production car based on the Punk Cat, inexplicably renamed to ‘Ballet Cat’.

Apparently reacting to infringement threats, the company has reshaped the headlights and updated the front bumper, the door handles and the wheels for them to resemble its German counterparts somewhat less. The interior is neither Beetle nor retro, and boasts a white-pink color combo with floral ornaments and a large digital cluster incorporating a digital dash display and an infotainment system. The round air vents are also gone.

Powertrain specs remain undisclosed, but Autohome believes the Ora Ballet Cat will utilize a single electric motor rated at 400 or 500 km (248 – 310 miles) of range depending on your chosen battery size.

Production is slated to begin in the first half of 2022.
