The Japanese automaker has halved its petrol engine production volume targets in China following a steep decline in demand.
Sales of Honda vehicles fell by 30.9% to just 852,000 units in 2024. Increasingly stiff competition compounded by a growing EV market was cited as the main cause.
Moving forward, Honda plans to reconsider its China product lineup with a bigger emphasis on EVs. It plans to shut down one out of the two ICE assembly lines at each of its joint enterprises with Dongfeng and GAC.
