Honda’s new Insight is a rebadged coupe-SUV for Japan

As you may remember, the original Honda Insight emerged in the year 1999 and was hatchback-shaped. It proceeded to retire in 2014 after two generations. In 2018, the automaker put the same badge on a Civic-based sedan. It has now announced the fourth generation of the Insight – and the formula is different yet once again.

Long story short, the 2026 Honda Insight is a coupe-like crossover SUV intended for the Japanese domestic market based on the automaker’s e:NS2 model for China. That one was co-designed with Dongfeng but never managed to sell well, so it was soon discontinued in its country of origin. For some reason, Honda reckoned it could sell more units in Japan.

As of today, preorders are already available starting from 5.5 million JPY ($34,550). The SUV is 4,785 mm (188.4 inches) long, 1,840 mm (72.4 inches) wide and 1,570 mm (61.8 inches) tall with 2,735 mm (107.7 inches) between the axles. It looks indistinguishable from the Chinese version with its fang-shaped DRLs, backlit logo, louver-like stripes across the lower bumper and tailgate spoiler.

Customers in Japan get 18-inch standard wheels, a heads-up display, heated steering wheel and seats, and the latest ADAS features from the Honda Sensing package. A dash cam and an air purification system are also included in the base trim.

Things stay unchanged under the hood. Like the e:NS2, the new Insight sends 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque to the front wheels. A full charge is enough for 535 kilometers (332 miles) of WLTC range.
