Italdesign’s long-awaited Honda NSX restomod is here… sort of

Not long after Pininfarina unveiled its take on a modern-era NSX, Italdesign has followed up with its own rendition. Only a handful will be made, likely priced close to $1,000,000 if the company’s previous works are anything to go by.

The so-called Honda NSX Tribute was introduced at the recently concluded auto salon in Tokyo. It wasn’t present in the metal, though – the company simply showed us sketches and 3D renderings. In a major lapse of judgment, Italdesign also posted an AI-generated promotion video of the car (see above). The commenters have trampled that one into the ground. Anyway, everything points to the product not being quite ready yet.

To create the restomod, the company takes a second-generation Honda or Acura NSX produced between 2016 and 2022 and puts it in updated bodywork for added style points. Novelties include a roof scoop reminiscent of the exclusive NSX R GT version, an eye-catching rear wing with red contour backlight, and what looks like pop-up headlight cutouts in the hood. The first, NA1 generation of the NSX had actual pop-up headlights, while the Tribute seems content with just imitating them.

Inside, customers are free to choose from multiple trim schemes and even suggest their own, bespoke design ideas. All cars come packed with references to Ayrton Senna, the legendary Formula 1 racing driver who advised Honda on creating and tuning the original NSX.

Since no mention was made of the powertrain, we suppose that the Tribute still runs on its stock 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 power. Assisted by a hybrid system, it churns out up to 581 PS (573 hp / 427 kW).
