Spied: Hyundai Elantra N making a comeback

Someone in South Korea has spotted a Hyundai test mule masquerading as a current-generation Elantra sedan. Everything suggests that it was the next-gen Elantra N based on a new platform.

A closer look at the short video and the stills makes it clear that the mule wears reshaped bumpers and cut bodywork all around, suggesting a different chassis. It also has a visibly broader track with wider wheels and tires than the current version. This is in line with the former rumors saying that the new Elantra would arrive based on a modified K3 platform also used by the Hyundai Kona and Kia K4.

It may be too early to talk engine specs, but the engine sound in the video is noticeably raspier and deeper than the current Elantra’s 2.0-liter turbo-four rated at 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW) and 392 Nm (289 lb-ft) of torque. It is possible that Hyundai plans to tune up the engine a bit or pair it with a sportier exhaust system, but we suppose the Elantra N could wind up with the larger 2.5-liter engine of the Sonata N-Line.

That’s it for the speculation, for now, at least. The hottest Elantra is expected to debut in late 2026 as a model year 2027 vehicle, but all details remain to be announced.
