Infiniti QX65 Monograph touches down with FX styling cues

The world’s first coupe-like SUV, the Infiniti FX, was launched in 2003 and stayed in production until 2017 after changing name to QX70. Fast-forward to the present day, and the company has revealed the QX65 Monograph heavily inspired by that nostalgic vehicle. It will soon reach production, although the specific date remains to be announced.

It’s probably worth pointing out that Infiniti tried replicating the success of the original FX with the smaller-sized QX50, but that one was a market failure. It looks like the new QX65 will attempt to fix what its predecessor did wrong.

As the name implies, the QX65 is closely based on the full-size QX60 model. The Monterey show car seen here boasts a stylish matte paint job, a rather sophisticated grille pattern and slick marker lights. It rides on 22-inch wheels and sports a black contrast roof.

The shoulder line, the side windows and the shape of the roof are all clearly inspired by the original FX. There is also a spoiler on the trunk lid and a fairly large diffuser under the bumper.

The detailed powertrain specs are unknown, but we suppose they could be identical to those of the standard QX60 model. If so, then the QX65 will arrive to us packing a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine sending 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
