Range-topping Land Rover Defender gains a Black Edition

Land Rover has added another entry to its Black lineup: a £158,000+ Defender Octa Black. That’s a £10,000 premium over the base Octa price in the UK.

The SUV wears a Narvick Black exterior finish and darkened trim details. There is no chrome wherever you look – even the “Defender” lettering at the front has been blacked out. The same goes for the tailpipes, the skid plates all around and the transmission housing. The automaker says a total of 30 exterior components got this treatment. For the wheels, customers can choose between a 20-inch and a 22-inch set.

For the first time on record, the SUV is available with a black semi-aniline perforated leather trim. The dashboard is matte black as well, and those looking for a pinch of extra sportiness may opt for carbon-fiber accents.

The Defender Octa debuted around a year ago. It ships with a 4.4-liter V8 rated at 635 PS (626 hp / 467 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. Despite its considerable bulk, it reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in four seconds from launch. Chassis and suspension tweaks underpin the high performance.

The facelifted Defender lineup – Octa included – comes equipped with new headlights and a larger 13.1-inch central display, among other things. Black Edition buyers enjoy access to a particularly wide selection of options and accessories.
