Range Rover Velar EV spied testing

The next generation of the Range Rover Velar is shaping up to be a completely different vehicle running on electricity, Carscoops reports.

Compared to the current generation (see video), the SUV looks downright unrecognizable from the rear. If anything, it looks squatter and more sedan-like than its predecessor. We suppose JLR may want to rebrand it as a vehicle for urban use and active leisure, but no real off-road applications.

Then again, it’s thoroughly plausible that this is an early pre-production version wearing some provisional bodywork, or even deliberately fake panels. We should be able to learn more towards the launch, which is expected in late 2026. The first deliveries likely won’t begin until 2027.

Little is known about the powertrain of the new Velar. The company’s electrification strategy still envisions it as a battery-electric vehicle, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a hybrid variant added later, considering the state of the market.

Aside from the Velar, the automaker is currently developing another crossover SUV from a newly created Freelander lineup. It is being co-designed with Chery and is targeted towards the global market. That’s all we know at the moment.
