Mazda CX-30 runs on electric power

Mazda’s Shanghai booth displays a fully electric version of the CX-30 SUV. The car has traded its internal combustion engine for a system called e-SkyActiv.

Like the marque’s first production electric car – the MX-30 – the CX-30 comes built on SkyActiv Vehicle Architecture (SVA). It seems likely that it uses the same powertrain as well, although the company hasn’t confirmed it yet.

The abovementioned MX-30 model has a single front-mounted motor rated at 143 PS (141 hp / 105 kW) and 264 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque. Its 35.5-kWh traction battery gives it around 200 kilometers (124 miles) of WLTP-rated range.

Compared to its ICE counterpart shown in the video, the battery SUV rides taller and boasts wider wheel arches and running boards, as well as a front spoiler lip.

The CX-30 EV will be Mazda’s first electric car in China, because the MX-30 is not available on that market. Production will take place at the Mazda-Changan Automobile joint factory, and sales are expected to begin in the second half of the year.
