This Mazda MX-5 is does a splendid Aston Martin impression

A 2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster converted into an Aston Martin lookalike is up for grabs on Bring a Trailer right now, with the bidding at $23,500 and several hours left on the auction clock.

Simpson Design, from the state of Washington, carried out this build by keeping the engine and the chassis but replacing most of the bodywork. While they were at it, they made sure the wheel arches were ventilated, the hood had a sizable air intake on it, and the front end looked gorgeous with an oversized fine-mesh grille. The doors are about the only part that stayed stock, but new handles for them were sourced from a Lancia Flavia.

Aston Martin emblems all around complete this impressively true-to-life styling effort on the outside. And if you think the interior is stock, you are in for a world of excitement. Everything inside has been reworked in classic vinyl with woodgrain accents, while the stock steering wheel made room for its wood-rimmed Nardo counterpart. The AC, the radio and some other creature comforts carry over from the original MX-5.

A 2.0-liter engine rated at 168 PS (166 hp / 124 kW) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque still drives the rear wheels through this Miata’s standard six-speed automatic transmission. It’s not a new car with 42,000 kilometers (26,000 miles) under its belt, but it’s a looker for sure!
