Tuner crashes an $800k HWA EVO restomod for a good cause

HWA EVO, a meticulously crafted restomod of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 EVO II, was spotted testing on the Nürburgring track around a month ago (see video). It has now been crashed, but only so that the company could obtain TÜV certification.

The $800,000+ supercar was subjected to a long series of controlled tests upon request of HWA Chief Technology Officer Gordian von Schöning. It was tested for acceleration, braking efficiency, emission levels and all kinds of structural integrity issues – a total of 60 tests. Once over, the car was awarded a TÜV certificate making it road-legal in Germany and the EU.

Production plans exist for 100 such vehicles, most of them already sold via preorders. The detailed specifications will have to wait, but HWA is aiming at a faithful reimagination of the original 190E on a modern platform, rather than a simple restoration. A production-close version of the car will be exhibited at the SEMA Show next week, so stay tuned.
