Mercedes sprinkles more stars on the GLE and GLS

Mercedes-Benz has facelifted the GLE, the GLE Coupe and the opulent GLS, landing all three models with numerous technical improvements and a controversial visual overhaul.

On the outside, you can recognize the new models by a star-patterned radiator grille encased in a large black bezel, as well as tri-point headlights and taillights. On the technical side of things, Mercedes claims that the new Digital Light LEDs consume only half as much power as the traditional ones, weigh 25% less and feature adaptive high beams.

The interior is still dominated by the MBUX infotainment system, which resides on three 12.3-inch displays on the dash. It features the latest voice assistant and AI features, and comes with two extra 11.6-inch displays for the rear row occupants (GLS only). Panoramic roof is included as standard, while a heads-up display with Augmented Reality support comes optional. Buyers also get to choose from a larger number of colors and trim materials, as well as three seat types offering enhanced power adjustments.

The 350d and 450d models keep their powertrain output intact, but benefit from a heated catalytic converter. The 450e plug-in hybrid gets a 75-PS (74-hp / 55-kW) power bump and now runs 106 km (66 miles) on electricity alone, WLTP-rated. Its gas-only cousin, the model 450, gains an extra 12% of torque for a new high of 560 Nm (413 lb-ft).

As for the range-topping model 580, it has been redesigned with superior engine internals, ESP tweaks and sportier suspension in all modes. The output peaks at 537 PS (530 hp / 395 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque.

All prices are pending.
