The First President of Kazakhstan used this armored Mercedes-Benz 600 SEL

A 29-year-old, armor-clad Mercedes-Benz 600 SEL cropped up on sale in Kazakhstan this weekend for an asking price of 30 million Tenge (~64,000 USD), with the seller claiming it was once owned and used by Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first President of the country.

According to Kolesa.kz, the sedan costs several times more than standard W140 sedans of similar age: the prices typically range from 4.2 to 9 million Tenge. This particular car comes with documents confirming that it had the state license plate ‘01 KZ’ in the past.

Powering the unique bulletproof ride is a six-liter V12 rated at 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque. The armoring corresponds to the B7 standard, meaning the occupants of the vehicle are safe against 7.63mm gunfire and select armor-piercing rounds. The seller claims that the armor pod created for this specific car is a one-off custom job with superior characteristics.

The car reportedly has 37,900 km (23,550 miles) under its belt. It was sold at an auction 14 years ago and had stayed in a private collection until the sale. At the time of writing, the ad has been delisted with no comment on whether the luxury limo was sold.
