Domanig finds things to improve with the Mercedes-AMG SL 63

It’s a bit of an odd thing to say, but we live in a time when 585 horsepower isn’t really supercar spec. That shouldn’t deter Mercedes-AMG SL 63 owners from enjoying their gorgeous roadsters, but if someone starts feeling insecure, Domanig in Germany has a solution.

The tuning company has devised an upgrade for the stock 4.0-liter V8 that raises its output to 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW) and 1,040 Nm (767 lb-ft) of torque. It relies heavily on performance parts from IMSA, including turbos, intercoolers, a complete exhaust system with sport catalysts and a special ECU.

With everything installed and tuned, the AMG SL zaps from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in three seconds flat and can attain a breakneck top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph). This sounds especially impressive if you consider that it’s just a sporty roadster riding on oversized 22-inch D-Forged Black Edition wheels.

To make sure it looks the part, Domanig also drops the ride height of the AMG SL by 30-35 mm (1.2–1.4”), installs a modest-sized spoiler at the rear end and puts carbon-fiber trims on the door handles.
