MG7 breaks cover in China

MG has officially unveiled its new flagship liftback, the MG7, which arguably turned out a little bit less exciting than some of us expected.

The car’s dimensions (LWH) are 4,884 x 1,889 x 1,447 millimeters, or roughly 191 x 74 x 56.5 inches. The wheelbase stretches 2,778 mm (108.5 inches). The doors are fashionably frameless, and the exhaust system opens into four finisher tips. As soon as you hit 100 km/h (62 mph), a trunk spoiler automatically extends for improved downforce – or, alternatively. you can force it out with a dedicated button. The suspension makes use of adaptive shocks, but air-ride is not on the menu.

Interior highlights include an AR-powered heads-up display, a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Level 2 semi-autonomous driving and a 14-speaker Bose audio system are also included in the base trim.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a nine-speed A/T for 261 PS (257 hp / 192 kW) and 405 Nm (300 lb-ft) of torque. The front wheels benefit from an electronic diff lock for optimum torque distribution. Getting to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 6.5 seconds, and the top speed lies at 230 km/h (143 mph). Later on, MG will complement the engine range with a new entry spec with 1.5 liters of displacement and 188 PS (185 hp / 138 kW).
