Exotic Zagato-bodied Nissan crops up on sale for $38k

A rare Autech Zagato Stelvio AZ1 sports car built between Nissan and the Italian coachbuilder in a production series of barely above 100 units has cropped up on eBay Japan with an asking price of ¥5.6 million, or $37,940, Creative 311 reports.

The car has since been delisted, and we don’t know if it found a new owner or not. It does sport a rather exotic appearance with hood bumps concealing mirrors, a trunk lid lifted to match the front, and odd body proportions all around. The wheels appear sealed with only small air vents for cooling.

The interior is stock Nissan Leopard, which is what the rarity is based upon. The same apparently goes for the 3.0-liter V6, which produced 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW) when new. A ZF four-speed automatic transmission conveys the momentum to the rear end.

Zagato’s original plans existed for 200 such cars. Due to multiple issues, including low funding, only 104 were made, or so the reports say. How many survive to this day is unknown. Several years ago, another Autech Zagato Stelvio AZ1 went under the hammer in France and fetched a nice amount – €99,000.
