As you may have heard, the R35 is the fastest-going generation of the Nissan GT-R Skyline family. But which one is the most exclusive? Look for the answer in the 1990s, when Japanese tuner HKS released four insanely powerful, street-legal Nissan Skyline R32 HKS Zero-R sport cars.
The company had initially planned to launch small-batch production of its custom R32 Skyline build. However, when it became clear that doing so necessitated sacrificing numerous copies worth at least U.S. $116,400 each in crash tests, it decided against this idea.
The Nissan Skyline R32 HKS Zero-R featured here packs an inline-6 engine capable of a whopping 600 hp (447 kW). Compared to the mass-issue R32 Skyline, the Zero-R series sports a unique rear fascia design involving twin exhaust tips, new diffusor and bumper. It also ditches the rear seat row for an extra fuel tank.
Later on, HKS found a way to exploit a loophole in the Japanese legislation to release a similarly-specced sport car series, titled the “Skyline R32 GT-R”. Nonetheless, the four original Zero-R vehicles remain unique and therefore highly sought after among car collectors.
