Theon-tuned Porsche 964 gets a detailed review

The Carscoops team has recently had the opportunity to drive a Porsche 964 restomod built by Theon Design. Here’s what they thought about the car allegedly worth around $600,000 USD.

The first thing that you realize when getting acquainted with a project like this is just how much time and effort went into it. You only need to pop the frunk lid open to find the space beneath lined with perfectly fitted embossed leather. Everything down to the smallest details receives the same treatment, which involves hundreds of hours of work and ensures that the result is a one-of-a-kind work of art.

And then there are tech upgrades. The engine was rebuilt from scratch on high-performance internals and hits the rear wheels with 406 PS (400 hp / 298 kW) along with 498 Nm (367 lb-ft) of torque. The five-speed manual transmission remains stock. By the way, the donor car is a Carrera 2 spec, but Theon manages to make it a whole centner lighter than stock – 1,265 kilograms, or 2,790 pounds.

Another compliment went to the suspension, which was found only moderately stiff. It is easy to put racing springs into a street-legal car, Carscoops reasons, but actually driving it on public roads can be a nightmare. The interior with its soft orange leather trim warranted some praise as well.

Of course, there were criticisms, too. The alignment of the seat respective to the steering wheel was inconvenient, the steering column could use some extra length, and the wonky power adjustments of the seats deserved a makeover.

Theon Design asks a minimum of £380,000 for its restomods, which is around $457,000 at the current rates, but the reviewers felt their example was around 30 percent more expensive than the base model.
