Toyota discloses the unsightly truth behind EVs

Every electric vehicle produced harms the environment as much as three hybrids, says Toyota’s Board Chairman Akio Toyoda.

In other words, manufacturing and assembling 9 million EVs comes with a carbon footprint as large as that from making 27 million hybrid cars. According to Toyoda, this corresponds to his company’s total quantity of hybrids produced since the debut of the first-generation Prius 28 years ago.

Speaking about the worst pollutants, the long-standing Toyota CEO said it is the battery packs that leave the biggest CO2 footprint. Part-electric cars use much smaller batteries than full-blown EVs, so they are less harmful to nature.
