The North American corporation has been seeing a steady decline in car sales over the past several months, with stock piling up and no easy way out of the crisis.
Jean-Philippe Imparato, the newly appointed CEO of Stellantis Europe, announced that the company would have to downscale ICE car production to cut costs. Doing so while continuing to produce electric vehicles will help it keep its CO2 emission profile down in Europe, avoiding fines.
Things aren’t looking nearly as hopeful for the domestic part of the business, though. Stellantis has officially put its Arizona Proving Grounds up for auction, hoping to recoup at least some of the losses. The area of roughly 16 square kilometers (6.2 square miles) was actively used for testing vehicles prior to production, and it makes us wonder where the company expects to find a replacement.
