Tesla keeps improving its humanoid robot tech

During the latest shareholders’ meeting, Tesla has revealed a video dedicated to a new version of its Olympus robot model. The footage demonstrated the capabilities of the humanoid machines along with their learning methods.

The first presentation of the technology in last October left the audience with a mixed impression, but the video below suggests that substantial progress has been made since then. The Tesla Optimus can now move on its own, as evidenced by whole groups of them marching in the company’s offices and factory facilities in the video.

Aside from this, it is the first time that we actually get to see the robots interact with items. For instance, they can pick up an object lying on the table and put it into a tray placed nearby. Some of the abilities are demonstrated on individual robotic parts: in the video, an arm mounted on a special stand touches a raw chicken egg so gently and precisely as to avoid cracking it. Finally, the vid briefly demonstrates how the robots orient themselves a new environment.

As we learned back in October, Tesla was planning to ‘teach’ the Optimus robots to move around and manipulate objects by feeding them large amounts of motion-capture data from human actors.
