Tesla upgrades FSD with Robotaxi-sourced features

The Tesla FSD v14 software update is already available for downloading, Electrek reports pointing out that it is the company’s first major autopilot update this year. Many of its features comes from testing and operating the Robotaxi fleet in the United States, Tesla claims in an official announcement.

The biggest change concerns the decision-making logic when arriving at a destination. The car can now either successfully park at the final point of the route using an available parking place or driveway, or look for a garage to enter, or otherwise unload the passengers at a curb.

All cars should now be faster at detecting and analyzing road situations when driving around objects is required. Whether a piece of debris lying in the middle of the lane or a school bus going about its business, the updated Tesla EVs should perform maneuvers with better precision. They are also supposed to better detect emergency service vehicles like ambulances and give way, and should be particularly precise when driving through a narrow gate, Tesla claims. Last but not least, drivers will get a warning if the system detects smears on the windshield interfering with the camera.

As well, the system now keeps a larger portfolio of known driver profiles, using them to decide what speed to pick for most maneuvers for the driver to be able to react if something goes wrong. Traffic conditions and relevant restrictions in the area also now affect decision-making, which occurs at least once every second. Rounding off the list are slight UI/UX updates, like a button that lets you engage FSD with a single touch when driving or parking.
